To blog or not to blog…that is the question

I’m a member of a few online writers’ groups, and one of them currently has a discussion going on around the value of blogging for fiction authors. It’s an interesting read. You may have noticed that my posts are few and far between. There’s a reason for that – I’m a naturally quiet person. All you’d need to do is ask anyone at the day job. They also say the quiet ones are the worst, but we won’t go there! Anyway, I’ve been cogitating – from the Latin cogitare, to think – and maybe it’s time I peeked out at the big, wide world a little more often. Starting next…

    New year, new start…

Here we are, almost halfway through the first month of 2016 – something tells me this year is going to go at leas as fast as last year! I thought it was about time to give you an update on Club Aegis 3, Passion’s Last Promise. The bad news is that I didn’t manage to write as much over Christmas as I planned – the better news is that I think I have between 5,000 and 8,000 words to go, to complete the first draft. However that is going to be held up for a month by the fact that I am currently taking four of Margie Lawson’s excellent writing…

    The Ugly Truth of Publishing…

Dear Reader You may have already heard this from me before – if so, I apologise – but in case you haven’t, you may not be aware that I’m not a full-time writer, much though I would love to be. Bills have to be paid, and since I’m a relative newbie at writing, I also have to work to support my books. They need editing and they need cover art, and if you want those things done to a high standard, you have to pay the going rate. So, I have a day job. When I first told my colleagues that I was having a book published (it was a…

    Season’s Greetings

Well, the day job has now finished until 4 January, which gives me a good opportunity to get on with Passion’s Last Promise, the latest Club Aegis novel. I’m still working on the initial draft. The word count currently stands at around 85,000, and I still have some way to go. This story has taken a few mystery turns along the way, scenes I never imagined when I first started writing it, which is why Ros and Simon are giving me so many problems! I hope to make some serious progress over the holidays, then I can start polishing the story before it goes to my wonderful editor. However, that’s quite…

    Happy Thanksgiving

As you may know, I live in the UK, and you’re probably aware that thanksgiving isn’t a holiday we celebrate here – although somehow we seem to have acquired Black Friday! However, I know that a great many of my readers are located in the US, and tomorrow will be a special day for you to spend with family and friends, celebrating one of your country’s great traditions. For those of you still to travel to the location of your celebration, I hope you have a safe journey, and for all of you, I wish a very Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope you all have a fantastic time, celebrating with…

    Hot off the press!

I’ve just found out that The Velvet Ribbon (Club Aegis 1) placed 2nd in the Erotic Novel category of the International Digital Awards contest sponsored by Oklahoma Romance Writers of America. Congratulations to everyone who placed in all the categories, in particular Roz Lee, who placed first in the Erotic Novel category with “Strike Out”, and whom I had the pleasure to meet earlier this year in New York – well done, Roz! You can see the full list here.

    Series blitz – thank you

The title says it all, but in a totally inadequate way. I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has kindly hosted the series blitz for my Club Aegis books over the last couple of weeks. Amazing – thank you so much. And I have been equally astounded by the way so many of you have tweeted and retweeted about the series as well – my thanks go to you as well. And if there’s anyone reading this who’s also been reading my books as a result of the blitz and the tweets – thank you, and I hope you’re enjoying the stories!

Passion’s Last Promise (Club Aegis 3) – update

Here we are, just a few weeks from Christmas. I had hoped to have Passion’s Last Promise available before Christmas, but it looks like it isn’t going to happen – for which I deeply apologise. I am making progress – the problem I have is that my characters are telling me about lots of things they want to happen in the story, but I think it’s just going to be too much for this one book. That being the case, I’m trying to rein them in and make the length of this book less daunting a prospect. Once I do get the first draft completed, it will need a lot…

    Permission to be baaaaaad…

I just read a brilliant article on Kristen Lamb’s blog: https://warriorwriters.wordpress.com/2015/10/06/good-girls-dont-become-best-sellers-channeling-your-inner-bad-girl-to-reach-your-dreams/ I identified with so much of what Kristen wrote, and I know I’m not the only one. If you write, and you’re like me, and find it difficult to bang the drum, blow your own trumpet, or otherwise be loud and proud about what you create, please read it. Please. Read. It.
