Golden Flogger Awards 2017 – Nomination

I am absolutely delighted to announce that Club Aegis 4: Passion’s Last Promise has been nominated in the Dominant Women & submissive men category of the Golden Flogger Awards 2017, as featured at the BDSM Writers Con, which is due to take place in New York from August 17 to August 20, 2017.

Readers are often more familiar with the D/s dynamic where the male takes the Dominant role – I know I was. Then I read a series of books that included a story where the main male character was the submissive. I will admit, I resisted reading that story for a long time, until I’d read every other book then available in that series. For completeness, I decided to read that book… and was blown away. It was an amazing story, with an unquestionably alpha hero who happened to be submissive, and it annihilated my preconceptions.

In the Club Aegis series, the second story, A Wanting Heart, features a second-chance romance, where Fiona and Ryan not only find each other again, they start an exploration of Dominance and submission. Both characters are new to BDSM and new to their respective roles as Dominant and submissive.

However, in Club Aegis 4: Passion’s Last Promise, Ros and Simon are both experienced in the lifestyle, and comfortable with who they are. Their story came about for two reasons: I wanted to write a story where a bodyguard and principal (the person being protected) fall in love, and one where the D/s dynamic was a less common combination. The latter dictated a female Dominant, so how to cast her? Should she be the bodyguard or the principal? Again, it seemed to me that having the female character as the bodyguard would be less common.

Ros Edwards was waiting in the wings. Her first appearance in the series was as a minor character mentioned in passing in Club Aegis 1: The Velvet Ribbon, with a follow-up appearance in person in Club Aegis 3: Love Is Danger. I thought she deserved a story of her own, and I then realised her potential for Passion’s Last Promise.

As a former officer in the Royal Military Police now working for a covert UK government security agency, she’s a strong, kick-ass woman in a male-dominated profession. When assigned to protect Simon Northwood, CEO and genius, she’s expecting a geek, but the man she meets is a challenge in more ways than one…
